The boats reportedly collided at high speed after an apparent navigation boob as the two coxswains steered their boats towards the lakeshore in search of a suitable place to anchor the houseboat.

Police confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as 29-year-old Ozias Maneta of Nyamhunga 1, Kariba.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara said on December 29 at around 4pm at Antelope, Chalala Point, two speed-boats owned by Delta being steered by the now deceased and another coxswain, Andrew Sanganai, were escorting The Zambezi Trader  houseboat which wanted to dock.

“Sanganai’s boat rammed into the one driven by Maneta resulting in the fatal crash,” said Mabgweazara, adding Maneta sustained injuries to his groin, forehead and legs.

Maneta died while being ferried to the lakeshore by an injured Sanganai, who also suffered head and back injuries and is admitted at Kariba District Hospital where his condition is reportedly serious.
