EDUCATION, Sport, Arts and Culture minister David Coltart says he will announce the new Zimbabwe Board of Wrestling and Boxing Control members this week. REPORT BY SUKOLUHLE MTHETHWA SPORTS REPORTER The previous board, led by Richard Hondo was dissolved by the minister in November last year after being at the helm since 1980.

“I came back to office today (yesterday) so I will be announcing the new board before the end of the week,” Coltart said.

Coltart is likely to consider names of potential candidates that were recommended to the ministry by the Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) last month.

SRC director-general Charles Nhemachena told NewsDay Sport last month that they had sent names of potential candidates, who include former boxers and sports administrators, while also saying candidates with a medical and business background were also recommended.

Former Zimbabwe light and middle-weight boxing champion Mordecai Donga indicated that he was eyeing a post in the new board. The Zimbabwe National Boxing Committee (ZNBC) was yesterday expected to hand over recommendations to the Sports ministry after convening an indaba on Saturday.

The ZNBC, whose spokesperson is Wesley McDade, was formed early last month after the dissolution of the boxing board and is advocating for the inclusion of former boxers and promoters in the new board.
