The victory ensured that Zimbabwe remained on course to qualify for next year’s ICC Women’s World T20 Global Qualifier in Ireland where they will battle it out with seven other countries for a spot at the 2014 ICC Women’s World T20 in Bangladesh.

Zimbabwe skipper Ashley Ndiraya won the toss and although she was run out in the first over, it didn’t matter as her team compiled a modest 102 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.

For the second consecutive match, Josephine Nkomo made a significant contribution for Zimbabwe with 20 runs off 25 deliveries before she was trapped lbw by bowler Carol Namugenyi, who was the pick of the Ugandan pack of bowlers, with two wickets.

Pellagia Mujaji (18) and Mary Anne Musonda (24) chipped in to ensure the Zimbabwe set a respectable target which their bowlers would be able to defend.

Having suffered a massive 137-run defeat to South Africa on Monday, Uganda must have been confident of a better showing and maybe a comeback victory.

But it wasn’t good enough as the East Africans were bowled out for 69 in 19,3 overs. Namugenyi (13) was the only batter to record double figures.

Zimbabwe drew against South Africa in their first match before narrowly beating Tanzania on Monday and look set to grab one of the slots on offer with a win over Kenya.

The 2014 ICC Women’s World T20 2014 will take place in Bangladesh in April 2014.

Seven teams have already qualified, namely, current champions Australia plus England, New Zealand, West Indies, India, South Africa and hosts Bangladesh.

For the qualifying tournament, hosts Ireland will be joined by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, both of whom played in the recently completed ICC Women’s World T20 2012 in Sri Lanka.

Other countries taking part include Canada, Japan and the Netherlands, who lost to Ireland in the European qualifying tournament earlier this season.

The final two places in the summer tournament are reserved for qualifiers from the Africa and Asia regions.
