Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze yesterday revealed that his association is trying to lure the former African champions for a match. Mashingaidze said Zifa had extended another invite to Ghana, but the Black Stars have opted to play Egypt instead.

“We have requested Nigeria and Ghana for friendly matches. It’s highly likely that one of the two countries will accept our offer. We should have a confirmation by Friday,” Mashingaidze said yesterday.

Angola had shown interest in playing Zimbabwe in preparation for the South Africa 2013, but Mashingaidze said the Palancas Negras had not formally sent in their request.

Zifa appointed Pagels to the Warriors hot seat last week after the resignation of Rahman Gumbo. The German national, who has already sent his working plan to Zifa, is expected to announce his assistants this afternoon.
