Sponsored by Robertsons Winery, the festival united various female musicians making the event a great féte.

From Chiwoniso Maraire and Plaxedes Wenyika to the young Cindy Munyavi and Pauline Gundidza, the festival had the numerous female musicians celebrating womanhood.

Prudence Katomeni Mbofana made sure that revellers were kept on their feet throughout her performance, while young Ammara Brown moved a step higher with her Kenya-based aunt Tatenda Sandra Mashiringo introducing some good sound.

Jazz 105 director Josh Hozheri said he was pleased with the performances.

“We are happy with the performances. I must say the ladies performed very well,” he said.

“They exhibited great confidence, which in turn has earned them confidence from the public. I also need to thank our sponsors Robertson Winery for a job well done. They had faith in the brand and the concept and I am happy with the relationship that we have built from that.”

Local festivals, save for a few, lack sponsorship as the corporate world has not been forthcoming.

The situation has further diminished the prospects of the arts sector giving meaningful rewards for the artistes. Hozheri said he was assured that the partnership with the wine-makers would foster brighter prospects for future festivals.

He showered praises on the musicians and said they had proven beyond doubt that they were good enough to stand on their own.

“They have proven they have the talent and they can do it, which is why we have made sure we afford them a chance,” he said.

The opening night of the festival was a colourful event that saw Eyahra Mathazia launching her new beauty range Eyahra Beauty Workshop.

Rebecca Chisamba, popularly known as Mai Chisamba, was the guest of honour at the event.

The festival also saw Jean Masters launching her new album Misi Haifanane.
