Viola Mathuthu (24) and Kwanele Nkala (40) were convicted of the assault charges when they appeared before Gwanda magistrate Shillah Nazombe.

Their co-accused Sihle Nkala (33) was discharged after the complainant and witnesses exonerated her.

Prosecutor Jefta Nyikadzinashe told the court that on November 30 this year at 9am, the complainant Sihle Moyo (41) of Matshetsheni village was going to a community meeting at Nkashe village in the company of Bonani Moyo and Mathuthu.

When they were passing Kwanele’s home, she asked Moyo and Mathuthu to get into her hut for a chat.

Moyo and Mathuthu got into Kwanele’s kitchen where Mathuthu, Kwanele and Sihle Nkala started quizzing Moyo about spreading reports that they were prostitutes, something which had the potential to destroy their marriages.
