Several artistes, among them sungura maestro Aleck Macheso, gospel diva Fungisai Zvakavapano, Sandra Ndebele, Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Sulumani Chimbetu, Mbare Chimurenga Choir and a local performer known as Buju, gave scintillating performances during the show.

Before the show, guests were treated to a marching procession led by police and army bands.

Addressing guests during the procession, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer Karikoga Kaseke said the gala was part of a wider programme aimed at marketing the country ahead of the UNTWO indaba.

“This shows our preparedness to host the international tourism conference which is due in eight months’ time. We are ever ready to host our visitors who will come for the indaba next year,” said Kaseke.

More than 4 000 delegates are expected to attend the conference from August 24 to August 29 next year which is being co-hosted by Victoria Falls and Livingstone in Zambia. Kaseke said the Zimbabwean hospitality industry was already geared for the event.

“We urge tourists to visit Zimbabwe for holiday-making and also we want to assure our visitors to the UNWTO conference that they will enjoy their stay in the country,” said Kaseke.

The festival ends today with performances by South African songstress Zahara and Zimbabwean superstar Oliver Mtukudzi.

The Victoria Falls Carnival is the main attraction other than the mighty Victoria Falls and the rainforest in the resort town this festive season.
