Kings, Highlanders, Giants and Southern Mavericks (all men) were expected to fight it out in the tournament in Bulawayo, but will no longer be participating, while the tournament has been moved to Kwekwe.
Steelers and Unicorns will clash in Kwekwe.
Southern Region Basketball president Daniel Mombeshora confirmed the withdrawal of Bulawayo teams yesterday.
“We are mourning with the Ndlovu family following the death of Adam, so we cannot be playing while he is being buried. Madinda has also sponsored Highlanders Basketball. They all used to come to watch basketball, so we are no longer hosting. Bulawayo teams will not be taking part,” he said.
Adam passed away on his way to hospital on Sunday morning after he was involved in an accident with his brother Peter on their way to Victoria Falls.
Nomqhele Tshili, whom they were travelling with, died on the spot.

“The Ndlovu brothers had shown a lot of interest in ensuring the growth of the sport. When there was the Peter Ndlovu Soccer Tournament, we also used to have the Peter Ndlovu Invitational Basketball tournament. We have also gone to pay our condolences to the Ndlovu family,” he said.
He said they had also been invited to another tournament, dubbed the Wafawafa Tournament in Harare, today, but will not be sending any teams either.
Mombeshora said the tournament was meant to wrap up this year’s activities with the Southern Region Basketball League expected to resume early next month.
