AFRICA Albida Tourism (AAT) chief executive officer Ross Kennedy says the group invested at least $3 million this year after seeing a steady rise in occupancy levels at its lodges.

In his Christmas message, Kennedy said the group takes pride in having being at the vanguard of the revival of Zimbabwe tourism.

He said at the zenith of AAT’s year was the opening in August of the luxury Victoria Falls Safari Club – “a stand-alone, five-star 20-room wing adjacent to our 72-room flagship, Victoria Falls Safari Lodge (VFSL), now celebrating its 18th year”.

All public areas of VFSL have been revitalised and a total refurbishment of all rooms is budgeted for 2013.

“The club has quickly made its mark as a premium property of real distinction as may be readily seen in our guest book comments and glowing reviews on TripAdvisor,” Kennedy said.

“It perfectly complements our other five-star property in Botswana – the eight-suite Ngoma Safari Lodge situated at the edge of the Chobe Forest Reserve.

“Both these properties have welcomed a cosmopolitan mix of international guests with the USA, Italy, Australia, France and the UK at the forefront.”

VFSL was voted “Best Safari Lodge in Zimbabwe” for the 17th successive year by the Association of Zimbabwe Travel Agents and the distinguished Conde Nast Traveller ranked us at number 10 in their Readers’ Choice “Top 25 Safari Lodges and Resorts in Africa.”

“As 2013 unfolds we anticipate that the momentum will build to the showpiece event, the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) general assembly at Victoria Falls in August.  We are ready,” Kennedy added.

He said the group was fully committed to continue investing  “in people and our industry”.
