Water Resources Development and Management minister and MDC-T Lobengula MP Samuel Sipepa Nkomo said: “My wish is to have a peaceful and violence-free election and everyone, including the security sector, to respect whoever wins be it Morgan Tsvangirai or Robert Mugabe.

“Next year I would also like to put my energy on the rural water, sanitation and health programme that would see the drilling of boreholes and construction of toilets. We will be working hard on the connection of water to Bulawayo and the completion of the Tokwe-Mukosi Dam.”

Zanu PF politburo member Sikhanyiso Ndlovu said he would like to see the revival of Bulawayo’s collapsed industries and improvement on schools’ infrastructure in the region.

“The year 2012 is important in that it marks the end of the GPA and that the people have learnt not to vote for splinter parties that impede development . . . We want to come together and campaign for the distribution of funds to revive industry in Bulawayo,” said Ndlovu.

“The teaching of sciences is important also for the children of the region so that they can pursue their studies at the National University of Science and Technology. There is need for an affirmative action to develop infrastructure in our schools. We also need to construct of laboratories. Teaching of information technology is also vital in this era.”

MDC director of policy and research Qhubani Moyo said he projected a landslide victory for his party leader Welshman Ncube in the forthcoming elections.

“I foresee a thunderous victory for Welshman Ncube because the people have seen the insensitivity and inconsideration within Zanu PF and MDC-T. The people don’t want to take part in a process that will see the reincarnation of Zanu PF,” said Moyo.

“My desire for the people of Matabeleland is for them to have confidence in themselves and realise that they are a full component of Zimbabwe and should not be influenced by other regions. They should not follow what others believe in, but what they believe in.”
