Chairman of the club Theo Weale yesterday said club players and other stakeholders will today visit Percy Ibboston where they will hand out the clothing items, chat to the children resident at the home, play touch rugby with the kids before sharing lunch.

“We are saying OMs is giving back to the society and to the less-privileged. We will be donating jeans, T-shirts, trousers and other clothing items to the boys and the home courtesy of our players, their parents and friends. We want to create a brotherly atmosphere and say there are other avenues that these boys can pursue in life especially sports and in this instance rugby,” Weale said.

“We understand that sometimes poverty can make someone turn to crime so we want to speak to the boys; have one on one chats and say they are other ways of dealing with issues. We will tour the place with all our players and try to understand the boys’ situation after which we will play touch rugby with the boys and end up having lunch which we have sourced from our own pockets. We are saying outside rugby we want to be a unifying factor and be one family,” Weale said.

The OMs chairman said they got connected to Percy Ibboston through children’s rights organisation Childline and have engaged the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) from whom they will be inviting guests for the programme.

Part of the Lions Lager National Rugby League (NRL) outfit delegation will include next season’s captain Jason Mackay, Courtney Mwatsiya and Mzwandile Moache.

Mthabisi Nyathi, Sandile Lupwana, Thabani Sakupwanya, Mandisa Masuku, Tichaona Magunje, Thabo Nyathi, Hardlife Masunda and Tyron Maware with manager Sharon Pourtbury providing the motherly touch to the OMs gesture will also be at Percy Ibboston Remand Home.

Weale said the gesture is not a once off event but they would be returning to the home during the 2013 NRL mid-season break.
