WARRIORS’ midfielder Bradley Pritchard scored his first league goal for English championship side Charlton Athletic as they drew 2-2 with Brighton on Saturday.

Report by Henry Mhara Sports Reporter

The 26-year-old midfielder steered the ball into the bottom right corner of the net at the Valley with 20 minutes remaining, only for substitute Kazenga LuaLua to earn the Seagulls a share of the spoils five minutes later.

His only other goal for Charlton was in the FA Cup first round win at non-league ADFC Halifax more than a year ago.

When the ball hit the back of the net on Saturday, Pritchard conceded he did not really know how to react.

Pritchard said: “I was very happy to finally break the duck and relieved I could score and help the team.

“When the gaffer first signed me, I had been scoring quite a few goals for Hayes&Yeading, so to finally get one after so long I was just relieved really,” said Pritchard.

However, Pritchard alongside players such as Belgium-based star Ovidy Karuru, is likely to form the core of the Warriors team when new interim coach Klaus Pagels picks his squad for a back-to-back World Cup qualifier against Egypt early next year.

Also breaking his duck in the league this season was Carlington Nyadombo who converted from the penalty to give his Absa Premiership side Amazulu a lead against Tinashe Nengomasha’s Wits University on Sunday.

The lead, however, lasted for just three minutes as Wits equalised in a match that marked the return of Warriors and Amazulu goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini from a two-months’ injury layoff. Kapini played the whole match and so did Nyadombo, Nengomasha and Thomas Sweswe for Bidvest.

Knowledge Musona was back in the starting line-up for Bundesliga side Augsburg as they fell 2-0 at home to former European champions Bayern Munich. The 21-year-old striker who last played for his side on November 25 played for 90 minutes before making way for Milan Pertzela.

Vusa Nyoni was in the starting line-up and played the whole match as his Beerschot side were humiliated 7-1 by Zulte-Waregem in Belgium.

Method Mwanjali looks a major beneficiary of the recent technical shake-up at Absa Premiership side Mamelodi Sundowns after the former Warriors captain was for the second week running, named in the starting line-up for the Tswane-based club as they scraped to a 1-nil over Black Leopards on Sunday.

Before last week, Mwanjali had last played in a league match three months ago.

Nyasha Mushekwi was back in the starting line-up for the Brazilians, but it is Esrom Nyandoro who should be very worried with the recent changes at Sundowns. Nyandoro, who appeared a favourite of Neeskens, has failed to make it into the final 18 since Mosimane took over.
