In a statement, MLF spokesperson David Magagula said the event would be held at Stanley Hall in Makokoba suburb.
The secessionist party – which has been pushing for the establishment of a separate state in Matabeleland, to be known as Mthwakazi, was launched on December 27, 2010.
“MLF was launched as the first liberation movement fighting for the restoration of the former Kingdom of Mthwakazi,” Magagula said.
“MLF goes to this year’s commemoration high-spirited as major stumbling blocks and prerequisites have been surmounted and achieved. MLF’s impact has been immense both in Zimbabwe and in the whole of Sadc. In Zimbabwe, the call for Mthwakazi independence has seen President Robert Mugabe publicly reject devolution of power in the constitution-making process. Zimbabweans view devolution of power as a step towards total independence for Matabeleland.
“We have also witnessed a hurried introduction of Mthwakazi languages like Tonga, Venda and Kalanga in schools and some cosmetic appeasement moves and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has also been seen running around the Mtshabezi water project to portray a caring image for Mthwakazians.”
Magagula said other minority groups throughout Africa had also upped their campaign for self- determination.

“Regionally, MLF has seen Barotseland demand their freedom and independence. We recently witnessed the Venda independence call from South Africa. Mthwakazi is central to these two states both geographically and intellectually. Internationally, Spain, Canada, Britain and the USA have states that want to break away and practice self-rule.”
