Zimbabwe is set to face Botswana in the traditional Unity Cup at Rufaro Stadium next Saturday.

Mighty Warriors team manager Charity Munemo announced the bloated squad, recalling Machingura and Majika. The two last played for the team almost six months ago. The players are expected to start camp today.

Machingura, who plays for Marange Resources Women’s National League reigning champions Black Rhinos Queens, last donned the Mighty Warriors jersey in an African Women’s Championships final qualifier first leg against Nigeria at Rufaro on May 27.

Majika played in the second leg in Lagos on 11 June, but that was the last time the tough-tackling defender was seen wearing the Mighty Warriors jersey.

The two were named in the Mighty Warriors squad for the Commissioner’s General Police Fun Fair match in September but pulled out.

“Machingura withdrew from camp as she was not feeling well and Majika had no passport, so she could not play,” Munemo said.

Cyclone Queens left-back Beatrice Chigamufuwa is the only new face in the squad while her teammate Sharon Nyasondo, Inline’s Rejoice Kamumvuti, Melody Musakwa and goalkeeper Selby Spencer both of Mufakose Queens, who could not make it into the final squad for the SA trip, have been given another chance to prove themselves.

Botswana, who were beaten 3-0 by South Africa’s Banyana Banyana on Monday in a friendly match, are expected in the country on Monday afternoon. Zimbabwe are the current holders after beating South Africa 3-0 in last year’s edition.

The Mighty Warriors played Botswana in the African Women’s Championships qualifiers early this year with Mugadza’s side winning the tie 3-1 on aggregate.
