JOHANNESBURG — There will be little rest for Gordon Igesund during the festive season as Bafana Bafana’s preparations for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) shift into top gear.

Time is running out for Igesund, who according to Safa, will hold a mini, training camp from today to December 30 in Johannesburg before announcing his Afcon squad.

The Bafana coach is eager to assess players such as Katlego Mphela, Benni McCarthy, Thulani Serero and Bernard Parker during the camp.

On New Year’s Eve, Igesund will take a breather for two days before a full Bafana Bafana squad hold their final training camp before the start of the continental showcase.

“According to our programme, all Bafana Bafana players are expected to report for camp from January 2 to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations.

“They will play friendly matches as part of their training,” Safa media officer Mahlomola Morake told KickOff.com.

Bafana Bafana – who beat Malawi 3-1 on Saturday in an international friendly – will play Norway on January 8 before facing Algeria on January 12 in their last friendly match before the start of Afcon.
