Spencer Chivasa (30) of Shamva was remanded in custody to January 11 next year when he appeared before Harare magistrate Don Ndirowei facing an attempted murder charge.

Prosecutor Tungamirai Chakurira told the court that Jeffrey Mukunya and Cephas Tendai Nhidze, who are both police officers based at Milton Park Police Station, observed Chivasa driving improperly while on their way to work on December 26.

It is alleged Chivasa was driving in the wrong direction along Chinhoyi Street.

Mukunya signalled him to stop, but Chivasa ignored the signal before hitting the police officer with the vehicle bumper.

Nhidze, however, kept clinging on to the driver’s door, forcing Chivasa to stop the vehicle at the corner of Chinhoyi Street and Robert Mugabe Road.

Chivasa, however, jumped out of the vehicle and took to his heels, but was eventually arrested.
