JSC deputy secretary Rex Shana said several circuit courts were forced to close down because court officials were no longer able to travel to outlying areas due to shortages of staff, fuel and money.

“One of the major achievements of the JSC since they took over the administration of all the courts in Zimbabwe in 2010 is that we managed to reopen all the circuit courts which had been closed,” Shana said.

“We have 50 circuit courts nationwide and 37 of them had been closed down. We are happy to say that we managed to reopen all of them. There were no vehicles and for those who had vehicles there was no fuel for them to travel to the circuit courts hence the closure of the circuit courts.”

He said they had also successfully launched a protocol on the multi-sectoral management of sexual abuse and violence in Zimbabwe.

The protocol outlines the roles and responsibilities of several ministries and their partners when responding to survivors of sexual abuse.
