The gold miners will not go into the market to beef up their squad for the 2013 season.

How Mine clinched the Zifa Southern Region Division One League title ahead of favourites Bantu Rovers on the last day after beating police side Black Boots 1-0 at Fairbridge, while Tshintsha Guluva fell by the wayside to lowly Rufaro Rovers 1-0 at home on the same day on November 24.

The men behind How Mine’s success story are coaches Sheunesu Chaka and Jeremiah Makota.

Makota yesterday told NewsDay Sport that he believed the players that gained the club promotion deserved to play in the Premiership.

“We might be tempted to bring one or two experienced players to beef up the squad, but we believe that the guys we have can deliver. It is their time to play in the Premiership. When we came in from Division One from Division Two, these are the same guys that we had.

“We are trying to run away from a situation where we discard our own players and get players from clubs that have been relegated. Where would those guys get us to?” Makota said.

Some of the players with the gold miners include goalkeeper Nonjabulo Dube, defenders Steven Chirwa, Nero Nhatikombo, Watch Mafa, Chris Biki, Donald Chiringa, Leo Rambai, Collin Mbewe, Samuel Nasitala, Dumiso Dungeni and Maxwell Hundi.

Stephen Sibanda, Simbarashe Sithole and Itai Kaseke are some of their trusted strikers

“Our main focus is to avoid relegation and if we are going to play our games at home, I am sure we will achieve that feat. Plans are underway to upgrade our stadium and we hope by the start of the season that would have been done,” Makota said.

Club vice-chairman Samuel Julius echoed Makota’s sentiments.

“We have got very good players and they deserve to play in the Premiership, but that will depend on the technical team,” Julius said.

How Mine shot into the Premiership after finishing the season on 65 points from 32 games, winning 20, drawing five times and losing seven matches.
