CHITUNGWIZA Central Hospital could conduct pauper’s burials for eight bodies that have remained unclaimed from the medical institution’s mortuary since September.

In June, the hospital conducted pauper’s burials for 11 unclaimed bodies.

Hospital spokesperson Audrey Tasaranarwo said: “We have eight bodies at the moment which have not been claimed since September.

There are four bodies of unknown people and the other four are from Bumudzo Old People’s Home. The bodies of the unknown people might have been hit by a car or might have been involved in an accident and they were brought here without next of kin knowing and with no identification.

“The ones from the old people’s home are the elderly who would have been found staying alone and would be taken in by the home.”

Tasaranarwo added that the hospital had already started processing documents to facilitate the burials.

“Right now we are preparing the necessary paperwork because we first have to get clearance from the police, social welfare, then we advertise in the newspapers and on radio, then we can have a pauper’s burial,” she said.
