Custom Ladies beat Nigerians Heartland Queens in the first match, but had to come from behind after conceding a goal in the 12th minute through sloppy defending after the Nigerians drew first blood through Juliet Ogbakpa.

The Ghanaian women reorganised after allowing Heartland to go ahead, mounting pressure on their opponents, and were deservedly rewarded for their efforts when Monica Sewett-Grant scored the equailiser in the 39th minute.

In the early stages of the second half, play swung from one end to the other as both teams had a fair share of attempts at goal.

A brilliant strike by Priscilla Forkou in the 46th minute saw Custom Ladies go ahead for the first time in the match.

Custom Ladies added another goal to their tally through Gifty Sackey in the 58th minute, leaving Heartland with an uphill task to get back into the game.

Trailing by two goals did not put out the fighting spirit of the Nigerians and they managed to pull a goal back in the 62nd minute through Christy Bulus, setting up for a thrilling end to an entertaining encounter.

The Ghanaian outfit, however, managed to hold on to their narrow lead until the end of the match.

In another exciting encounter, Ghanaian side Reformed Ladies eased past Strathmore University of Kenya to go on top of the women’s pool table.

Today will see unbeaten Sharkia of Egypt take on contending Golden Sticks of Ghana in the afternoon, while basement sides Zimbabwe Hullets and Yobe Warriors of Nigeria will lock horns in the evening.
