Sarah Bennett, Hockey Association of Zimbabwe secretary-general yesterday said all was set for the games.

Zimbabwe will be represented by Hippo and Hullets in the men’s category and the Bulawayo Athletics Club (BAC) in the women’s category.

Hullets take on Ghanaians Golden Sticks in the first match while BAC clash with Custom Ladies of Ghana later in the day before Hippo battle it out with another Ghana side Trustees.

Tomorrow, BAC will take on Telkom Orange of Kenya with Hippo taking on Golden Sticks. Hullets will clash with champions Sharkia of Egypt.

“Six matches are supposed to be played per day with three from the men’s category and the other three games from the women’s sides” Bennett said.

Zimbabwe clubs Hullets and Hippo have both been placed in group A, which will see them facing defending Champions Sharkia of Egypt and Strathmore University of Kenya.

Group B comprises Ghanaian club the Golden Sticks and Trustees, who are tipped to be favourites behind the current title holders, Nigeria’s Niger flickers as well as Yobe warriors, while in the women’s category there will be one pool were all teams will battle it out.

“Most of the participating teams coming from outside have arrived with some still expected to arrive before the end of the day (yesterday),” Bennet said.
