He walked away with $5 000 and could cap a memorable season when the 2012 Castle Premiership Soccer Star of the Year winner is announced on December 14. He is the favourite alongside Highlanders’ Masimba Mambare and Monomotapa wonderboy Ronald Chitiyo.

Last year, Washington Arubi was the Player of the Year and Soccer Star of the Year and Mukamba is in line for a repeat of similar feat.

Defender Patson Jaure was named the Players’ Player of the Year and completed a double by clinching the Rookie of the Year. Farayi Mupasiri, also in his first season at Dynamos like Jaure, was named the Most Improved Player, while captain Tawanda Muparati was named the Most Consistent Player.

Desmond Maringwa was rewarded with the Most Loyal Player award, while left-back Ocean Mushure was named the Most Disciplined Player. Maringwa won the same award last year, although Murape Murape was expected to walk away with the award this year.

Playing in the “Makelele Role”, made prominent by legendary Frenchman Claude Makelele, Muparati was key behind Dynamos’ watertight defence and brilliant midfield and destroyed Monomotapa’s Ronald Chitiyo during the Mbada Diamonds Cup final to mark an extremely successful season for the ex-Douglas Warriors man.

He might not be as popular as Mukamba or Rodreck Mutuma, but he is certainly the club’s best grafter.
