The format of the competition is individual stableford.

Harry Allen captain Rodger Kamamba yesterday confirmed the competition.

“We are having an amateur golf tournament at Harry Allen on Saturday (tomorrow). We are expecting golfers from around Bulawayo and outside. The tournament will be sponsored by FireTech.

“There will also be a presentation on fire and safety awareness by a fire engineer after the tournament.

“Usually people go on holidays during this time and sometimes forget to switch off their gadgets which can result in outbreak of fires,” he said.

Expected to take to the greens are Bulawayo town clerk Middleton Nyoni, Matabeleland Golf Association president Mufaro Chivonivoni, Harry Allen public relations manager Moses Mlalazi and Canaan Maphosa.

Shepherd Huni and Harry Allen club chairman Cleopas Dube as well as former Highlanders chairman Themba Ndlela are expected to feature in the tournament set to attract about 100 golfers.

In-form lady golfer Acey Zerf, who won the Elephant Hills Open and the Hwange Open in September and October, is also taking part. Zerf triumphed during the Harry Allen Golf Classics at Harry Allen last weekend getting a gross score of 178 while Margaret Vera got 180.

Vera, Linda Rubaya and Lorraine Huwa are the women golfers expected to take to the greens.
