KAMPALA — Fourteen Eritrean players have disappeared from their camp following their exit from Cecafa competition on Saturday.

Report by Supersport Cecafa media officer Rogers Mulindwa told supersport.com that the players were nowhere to be seen, but they remain hopeful they will turn out for their flight.

“Fourteen players have disappeared from camp and we don’t know where they are at the moment. Their flight is scheduled for Tuesday morning and we hope they’ll be there to go home because we have no idea where they could be.”

Eritrea settled for a barren draw with Zanzibar which was their best result from the tournament as they finished last in their group with one point.

It is understood only coach Ngash Teklit, four officials and two players were present.

This has become a trend for the country, four players absconded when they faced opponents Tusker in Caf Champions League in 2006 in Nairobi before over 10 players followed suit at 2007 Cecafa tournament.

This was before they repeated the same feat at Angola in 2007 during World Cup qualifiers.

The team did the same thing back in 2009 in Kenya and a search was launched as they plane landed with only a player and the coach. As a result the team withdrew from 2010 and 2012 Afcon plus 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
