THE Council of Southern Africa Football Association (Cosafa) members agreed at their annual general assembly in Lusaka last weekend to introduce a regional club championship.

According to reports from Zambia, no date was agreed for the club championship tournament, but it would be announced after all consultations have been completed.
Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) were also represented at the regional assembly, but Zifa chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze could not be reached for comment yesterday. The meeting also agreed to resuscitate the Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup which is set to be held in Zambia next year.
During the same annual general assembly, Cosafa also unanimously resolved to float and support the sole candidature of its president Suketu Patel at next year’s Confederation of African Football (Caf) elective annual general congress.
Delegates at the meeting hailed the unity and good football conditions that currently obtain in the region.
Football Association of Zambia president Kalusha Bwalya commended regional heads for their unity and diligence in handling football matters.
Namibia Football Association president John Muinjo also hailed the meeting by saying: “In respect of the ordinary congress in Lusaka in the African championship country, the congress went well.
