ABOUT 700 Bindura residents have received free health service from a Chinese medical team under a country-wide programme organised by the medical team and the Chamber of Chinese Enterprises in Zimbabwe.

The Chinese medical team Free Health Day event was initiated by the Chinese Medical Team in Zimbabwe and the Chamber of Chinese Enterprises.

The exercise is expected to cover eight provinces over a period of one year beginning last September.

Last week’s event was the second that the Chinese medical team supplied free medical service to Zimbabweans, an official from the Office of the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese embassy said.

The event in Bindura was held at Chiwaridzo Primary School, itself a donation by the Chinese government in September 2011.

As the co-organiser, Zimbabwe Nantong International facilitated this event and gave free medicines to patients. Nantong also constructed the school.

Mashonaland Central governor Advocate Martin Dinha thanked the Chinese doctors for their gift to the people of Bindura.

Speaking at the same function, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese embassy, Han Bing, formally launched the programme and spoke about the healthy “profound and traditional” relations between Zimbabwe and China.

Chiwaridzo Primary School staff and students have expressed gratitude to the Chinese for the construction of the school and the free health programme which they said had benefited people of their community.
