DENDERA musicians Sulumani and Tryson Chimbetu have clashed once again over the issue of songs.

At the just-ended unity gala at Gokwe Centre over the weekend, Sulumani was forced to join Tryson on stage after the young musician played Ndarangarira Gamba, a hit that was composed and sung by the late Simon Chimbetu.

Sulumani’s lead guitarist and former band manager Knowledge Nkoma reportedly advised his boss to join Tryson to counter him.

A band member from Sulu’s camp, who refused to be named, said Sulu had tried to negotiate with event organisers to perform before Tryson, but his efforts were in vain.

“He tried to push and go on stage early so that we could beat Tryson on some of the songs, but the effort was in vain,” he said.

On stage, after the two had played Ndarangarira Gamba together, Tryson called Sulu to join him on the song Kumapako.

As the two were performing, Sulu’s guitarists came disconnecting cords trying to take over from Tryson’s guitarists.

Sulu’s publicist Joe Nyamungoma refuted that they wanted to take over saying they had actually planned to perform together at the gala.

However, Nyamungoma failed to explain why Sulu’s band members disconnected cords of Tryson’s guitarists.

Contrary to Nyamungoma’s claims, Tryson yesterday said they had not planned to have a joint performance, but said he was happy to see his cousin coming to join him on stage.

“I was happy to see him coming to join me on stage. Though we had not planned it, people loved it,” he said. He added that he was surprised to see Sulu’s guitarists disconnecting cords of his band members. “Yes I saw them do it while we were still performing, but I don’t know why they did that, I was surprised,” said Tryson. Sulu still insists that noone should play his father’s songs without his tacit approval.
