Business came to a standstill while motorists were forced out of some roads as the convoy with prisoners, their families and party supporters snaked into the capital, often passing through red traffic lights.

In his address at Harvest House — the MDC-T headquarters — party national youth assembly chairperson Solomon Madzore, who welcomed the activists upon their release, said it was time Tsvangirai took over the reins of the country.

The High Court on Monday ordered the release of the MDC-T supporters, accused of murdering a police officer Inspector Petros Mutedza in Glen View, Harare, early last year.

They are part of the 29 people who have been in remand prison for up to 19 months.

Justice Chinembiri Bhunu  who released them, however, refused to free five others, party national executive committee member, Last Maengahama, councillor Tungamirai Madzokere, Yvonne Musarurwa, Rebecca Mafukeni and Simon Mapanzura after agreeing with the prosecution that they were a flight risk.

Madzore was among the accused, but was released last month together with Cynthia Manjoro and Lovemore Taruvinga.
