Madziva (21) was recommended to by former Australian bowler and Rhinos coach Jason Gillespie.

Kirkbymoorside are currently playing in the Premier Division of the Reader’s Scarborough Beckett League.

Gillespie now coaches Yorkshire in the English County Championship.

“Neville Madziva is a quality player and person.

“He is in the early stages of his first-class career and is putting in performances that are being noticed by the Zimbabwe national selectors.

“I enjoyed working with him as coach of the MidWest Rhinos and look forward to him performing strongly for Kirkbymoorside.

“He is a very talented player who bats well and bowls with good pace,” Gillespie told the Malton Mercury newspaper yesterday.

The deal was confirmed on the club’s website yesterday.

“We are proud to announce the signing of our first ever overseas player in Neville Madziva. Neville is a bowling all-rounder from Zimbabwe. Neville comes highly recommended from none other than Yorkshire’s coach Jason Gillespie. He should be with us mid-April taking all junior coaching and developing the players at the club hoping to push David Gardners men towards the title. It is hoped Neville is the first of four or five signings over the coming month,” reported the website.

The Kadoma-born Madziva, who attended Jameson High School, has done well for Rhinos after rising through the ranks to make his first-class debut in his side’s clash against Mashonaland Eagles in February last year.
