Jayes accused Mugabe of making life unbearable for Zimbabweans by failing to provide for their basic needs.

Part of the letter, a copy of which was sent to NewsDay last month, reads: “You are not allowed to boss everyone around, being bossy is not good.

“You must please make life easier for your people and make sure everyone has enough food.

“Please also make sure that there is enough petrol so that I can visit Kesina. You must not do anything mean to anyone.” She said Mugabe must also avoid being tossed around by his subordinates.

“Don’t let bad people boss you and tell you what to do. If they do, you must tell me and then they will be in trouble from me.”

Between 2002 and 2008, Mugabe presided over the worst hyper-inflationary era in Zimbabwe which led to the collapse of the local currency and severe shortages of commodities including food and fuel.
