FORMER Bantu Rovers attacking midfielder Marvelous Nakamba says he is aiming to work very hard next year as he is targeting to break into French Division One football side AS Nancy’s first team after receiving his international clearance recently.

Nakamba attended trials in July and impressed the French side. He is in the country on a two-week break.

“I am in the AS Nancy reserve side. My plan is to work hard because I am in the reserve team. If I impress the coaches, I will be drafted into the first team. It is not going to be easy because there is very stiff competition. My coach Jean Fernandos has been encouraging me. I was not playing because I had not received my international clearance letter until two weeks ago. I am on a two-year contract,” he said.

“The good thing about my team is that there are other Africans there so it was easy for me to adapt. There are other players from Algeria, Senegal and Cameroon. Everyone welcomed me when I got there.”

Nakamba caught the attention of several scouts after taking part in a junior soccer tournament early this year. He was part of the team that took part in the Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 Youth Championships in Botswana last year.

He also attended trials with Belgian top-flight football side Cercle Brugge in April this year.

Former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari and Harlington Shereni have also played in France.
