Zifa first vice-president Ndumiso Gumede said yesterday there was a provision allowing Mutasa to coach another club if he gets the job.

“He (Mutasa) is free to coach any other club. There is a provision for that. Only head coach Klaus Dieter Pagels has a contract that binds him to coach the Warriors only. As for the assistants, they just have letters of appointment and are free to coach any other club,”said Gumede.

The former Kiglon mentor was appointed assistant of the Warriors following recommendations by Pagels who said he was an admirer of the 42-yearold coach.

Pagels said he had been impressed by his slick passing game when he was still coach of Kiglon before he joined Dynamos at the start of the 2011 season.

He was pushed out of Dynamos in the middle of the season before joining Swaziland outfit Green Mamba where he resigned last month before being appointed assistant coach of the Warriors.

Mutasa has expressed confidence of rebuilding a strong team that can breathe life into the fading 2014 World Cup campaign. Zimbabwe have a single point from their first two matches in Group G against Mozambique and Guinea. They play Egypt in their next encounter away in March next year.

The Pharaohs will not play a competitive game until March when they host Zimbabwe, but have made a solid start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, beating Mozambique and Guinea in their first two games.

Pagels is expected in the country in the new year to start preparations for the Warriors’ next assignment against the Egyptians.

The Warriors are expected to play a couple of friendly matches before the crucial tie against the Pharaohs in March.

Pagels, a German coach who was technical adviser of Zifa, was elevated to head coach of the Warriors following the resignation of Rahman Gumbo from the post after Zimbabwe failed to qualify for the 2013 African Cup of Nations finals to be played in South Africa next month.

Zimbabwe Under-23 coach Peter Ndlovu, Monomotapa goalkeepers’ coach Nkululeko Dhlamini, South Africa-based coach Ian Gorowa and team manager Sharrif Mussa are the other members of Pagels’ technical team.
