Named Romana, the child died just five days after birth in Chinhoyi and was buried in Banket on Monday.

Gasa told NewsDay he was devastated by the loss.

“It is something that you cannot do anything about when it happens, but the pain is immeasurable,” said Gasa.

He said the child succumbed to jaundice, a form of yellow fever on Sunday.

According to PubMed Health, jaundice is often the sign of a problem with the liver, gallbladder, or pancreas.

The website says infections, use of certain drugs, cancer, blood disorders, gallstones, birth defects and a number of other medical conditions can lead to jaundice.

“It is unfortunate that when we took her to the clinic for the three days’ review it was not detected and we lost her,” he said.

Romana was Gasa’s first child with wife Ruvimbo Mutamba.
