ZRP Raiders and Highlanders are the women’s representatives and will be joined by Railstars (men) from Bulawayo.

Panthers (women), Hawks and Support Unit (all men) completes the list of Zimbabwe teams that will feature in the competition.

Highlanders chairperson Khanyile Dlamini said they were working hard as it was an honour to be representing the country.

“We are working hard because we want to perform well. We are also planning to go into camp early if funds permit us because we want to get enough time to practice. We also appreciate the sponsorship we have received from Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube,” she said.

Dube, who is the chairman of Marange Resources and chief executive of Zimbabwe Defence Industries, is a known Highlanders football club benefactor.

Railstars assistant coach Qiniso Fuyane said they were expecting to build on from last year’s performances.

“Our preparations are going on very well. We will be missing Patrick Mupira who is writing his examinations, but we have other players who can fill in his position. We are hoping to do better than last year and reach the semi-finals,” he said.

ZRP Raiders coach Vulindlela Moyo said: “We have done well in the national league so far, but I do not expect too much from my players as most of them will be playing for the first time. We will just compete and see how it goes from there.”
