THE MDC-T Matabeleland North secretary for home affairs, Moses Moyo, is lucky to be alive after two gun-toting Zanu PF activists reportedly threatened to shoot him on Tuesday for being a member of MDC-T. Report by Richard Muponde Senior Court Reporter

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo yesterday confirmed they had received such a report, but would not say if the pair were Zanu PF activists and if they were still under police custody or not.

“I confirm that we are dealing with a case of suspects who pointed a firearm at a person and police investigations are still underway,” Moyo said.

“However, I want to warn members of the public to desist from violence, especially during the festive season where cases of violence are on the increase.

“Those who indulge in violence will be dealt with decisively.”

However, in a statement, the MDC-T identified the alleged gunmen as Zanu PF activists Takesure Mbano and Tinashe Chikara.

They said the pair arrived at Moyo’s house driving a Toyota Land Cruiser registration number ABR 2473. The serial number of the gun allegedly pointed at Moyo is C426474-7,65 calibre.

The MDC-T said upon arrival they threatened Moyo with death saying he did not deserve to own a plot since he was aligned to the MDC-T. But Moyo managed to call the police from Saurcetown after he blocked the Zanu-PF members’ car from escaping.

Police arrested the pair and a docket — number RRB-1396184 — was opened at Saurcestown Police Station.

Mbano was in September fined $100 (or 90 days in prison) by a Bulawayo magistrate for leaving his firearm unsecured at a food outlet in the city.
