KWEKWE — A Gweru-based police detective appeared before provincial magistrate Taurai Manwere yesterday facing a criminal charge after he defaulted in paying $200 each month towards maintenance of his two minor children.

Report By Staff Reporter

Amos Nyamakwawo (40) reportedly accrued a bill of $1 300 after he failed to meet his obligations since February this year.

The court had ordered Nyamakwawo to deposit the money every month into his estranged wife’s POSB account, but he failed to do so until the matter was taken back to court.

However, Nyamakwawo denied the charge, claiming that all along, he had been making regular payments through Ecocash and pleaded with the court to allow him to provide printout copies of his Ecocash deposits.

Manwere granted Nyamakwawo’s request and postponed the matter to November 27. Vimbai Chionoda prosecuted.
