The event will mark the end to the career of one of the country’s triathlon athletes, Chris Felgate.

Felgate, a past winner in this competition, has represented the country twice at the Olympics.

The 30-year-old, now based in South Africa, took part at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was also part of the Zimbabwean team at the London Olympics where he finished on position 52.

Triathlon Zimbabwe Association (TZA) announced that they will introduce an open-water swim as part of the Troutbeck triathlon format.

“The event is open to all swimmers and will constitute two optional distances, the 750m or the 1 500m course. It is fashioned on the Midmar Mile and similar other classics. The event will be run in conjunction with the triathlon schedule and will comply with the water quality and safety requirements as stipulated for all ITU events,” said TZA in a statement.

Atheletes are expected from as far as Europe.
