It will be held this Sunday.

Bulawayo Athletics Board secretary Dailes Bingadadi confirmed the race yesterday.

“We are having the Nkulumane 10km Fun Run on December 2. It has not been run for a very long time since the 1990s, but we are happy it is back now,” she said.

Categories on offer are men and women’s race, veterans, masters, grandmasters and juniors from 16-19 years.

“The good thing about this race is that it will benefit juniors as well. We also appreciate the sponsorship by Old Mutual because there are not many races in Bulawayo. So we are happy that they have come on board. It will also help in promoting junior athletes,” she said. The race will start and end at Nkulumane Complex.

Other notable races in the calendar in Bulawayo were the Hope Fountain 30km race and the Nkulumane Spar 10km road race.

Most athletes took part in the in the 30km Hope Fountain Race last week.

Top Zimbabwe athletes Sharon Tavengwa and George Majaji won the race.

Tavengwa came home in a time of 1 hour 57 minutes 25 seconds while Majaji was first in a time of 1 hour 35 minutes 34 seconds.

The athletes are also likely to use the race to prepare for the Nkulumane Spar 10km event on December 9.
