PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe yesterday swore in MDC-T deputy national chairman Morgan Komichi as Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development.

Komichi, who is also a non-constituency Senator, replaces Tichaona Mudzingwa who died in April this year.

Soon after being sworn in at State House yesterday, Komichi pledged to perform his duties in a non-partisan way.

“We need to work together with (Transport) minister (Nicholas) Goche,” said Komichi. “I am coming into the new job and I need to learn from what Goche has been doing in the ministry. We are all aware that the roads need attention and there are other departments in the ministry as well — Air Zimbabwe and the National Railways of Zimbabwe.

“For us to succeed, we need to work as a team. We know very well that if we work individually we will have challenges, we need then to work together. I am actually wishing and expecting that when I go to the ministry I will be taken as a member of the team, not to be taken as an MDC person outside the work of the ministry. I am a member of the MDC party, but I want to contribute nationally,” he said.
