MDC-T MP for Zaka west Festus Dumbu says he now fears for his life after he allegedly discovered two live bullets dropped in his parking bay at his workplace in Triangle last Wednesday.
Dumbu, a sport development administrator at Triangle Limited in the Lowveld, told NewsDay yesterday the bullets were from an AK 47 rifle and were marked Zimbabwe Defence Industry (ZDI).
“I was shocked to find two live bullets at my parking slot. I then reported the matter to the police who took them away,” said Dumbu.
However, Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Superintendent Paul Nyathi downplayed Dumbu’s fears saying the ammunition could have been dropped at the site during the liberation war.
“Those were old and rusty bullets which are remnants from the liberation struggle and that is not unusual. We hear several cases of ammunition left during the liberation struggle being discovered,” said Nyathi, refuting claims that the bullets had ZDI marks on them.
But Dumbu maintained the bullets could have been planted by his political enemies.
“That is an act of intimidation from Zanu PF and I condemn it with the contempt it deserves,” he said.
MDC-T information department in Masvingo confirmed the development, saying it was a sign of intimidation ahead of next year’s elections.
“The usual suspects are at it again. This is a precursor of worse things to come as we approach elections. This shows that a leopard does not change its colours,” the party said in a statement yesterday.
