Merciless Wladimir demolishes Wach

HAMBURG — Wladimir Klitschko demolished Mariusz Wach to retain his collection of heavyweight titles in Hamburg on Saturday night.

The WBO, IBF, IBO and WBA champion won by 120-107 on two cards and 119-109 on the third.

Klitschko had his knees buckled at the end of the fifth round when the Pole tagged him with a huge right, but he produced one of his best performances in a while to shut out Wach’s challenge.

Almost 2kg lighter and 4cm shorter than Wach, Klitschko hit his opponent with everything but a knockout punch. He drove jab after jab into the 32-year-old Wach’s face and killed off scores of brain cells with the right, but the Pole never looked like going down.

Klitschko administered an awful beating on his stone-jawed opponent and still had enough energy left in the last two rounds to show foot-work that many middleweights would love to have. But in the end he seemed to give up trying to knock out the big challenger.
