Mbada boost for Dynamos

Mbada Diamonds yesterday said the Dynamos are to get an additional $150 000 to their winning prize.

DYNAMOS will get a huge boost in their coffers as they begin their preparations for the Caf Champions League football campaign next year after Mbada Diamonds yesterday said the 2012 Mbada Diamonds Cup winners would get an additional $150 000 to their winning prize.

The Kalisto Pasuwa men on Saturday beat Monomotapa 2-0 to successfully defend the cup they won last year.

They received a $100 000 cheque for their exploits while Monomotapa got a $60 000 consolation.

The $150 000, which is a subsidy to cater for travelling costs in the African Safari, went to the tournament runners-up Motor Action last year who took part in the Caf Confederation Cup.

However, Mbada Diamonds have amended the tournament rules and Dynamos are set to get the full benefits of winning the cup this year.

Mbada Diamonds Cup organising committee chairperson Lloyd Mutsata yesterday said: “The subsidy will go to the winners unless they turn down the offer. We will have to engage them and sign a contract that is agreeable to both parties. But as it stands now, it is Dynamos who will benefit.”

According to this year’s Mbada Diamonds Cup regulations, article 13.2.4 says: “The tournament winners shall receive $150 000 worth of accommodation and air ticket sponsorship subsidy to participate in the Caf Confederation Cup/Caf Champions League on condition that they enter into agreement in terms of article 7.2 that mandates them to use the sponsors’ uniforms.

This subsidy shall be paid directly to the service providers at the time the services are required. Further, this subsidy shall be used to procure $25 000 worth of kit sponsorship bearing the Mbada Diamonds (Pvt) Ltd logo for use during the 2012 Caf Confederation Cup/Caf Champions League tournament.”

Dynamos secretary-general Raymond Kazembe yesterday said they could only accept the sponsorship if it had the blessings of BancABC, their principal sponsor.

“BancABC are our sponsors and they have all the sponsorship rights to Dynamos. They are the ones who can negotiate with Mbada Diamonds on that subsidy. We as a club are not involved on that one,” Kazembe said.

Both sponsors had their logos imprinted on the front part of the Dynamos kit during the course of this year’s edition.

Last year, BancABC gave Dynamos $165 000 to use in the Caf Champions League although the figure ballooned when the Harare giants got relegated into the Caf Confederation Cup.

The latest development has dented Monomotapa’s chances of playing in the Caf Confederation Cup as they were banking on the $150 000 to fund their African campaign. If they fail to get this sponsorship, Monomotapa might be forced to sell some of their star players who are reportedly being courted by Dynamos.

Goalkeeper Artwell Mukandi, Ronald Chitiyo, Russel Madamombe and Tawanda Nyamandwe are all believed to be on the Dynamos radar.
