After bowling out Mountaineers on Wednesday in their first inning, for 264 from 89,1 overs, Tuskers resumed the chase yesterday 259 runs behind while Mountaineers were 18 for no loss of wicket at close after seven wickets. Brian Chari and Moeen Ali both hit 42 before Sean Ervine’s cracking 83, which included 10 boundaries and three sixes, pushed Tuskers to 220/5 before he fell to Donald Tiripano.

As if that was not enough, Sean Williams struck 13 boundaries on his way to 88 off 115 balls while Charles Coventry added 22 for Tuskers to declare at 317, with nine overs of the day left to play.

In another match, Mashonaland Eagles had a mountain to climb after Richard Mutumbami (141) and Peter Burgoyne’s unbeaten 102 set Southern Rocks to a declared total of 459/8 from 145,5 overs at Harare Sports Club.

Eagles were at 15/1 at stumps yesterday, trailing by 444 runs.
