Witness Mlambo (24) was convicted of culpable homicide on his own plea by High Court judge Justice Susan Mavangira sitting in Mutare on Tuesday.
He was sentenced to five years in prison, but two were suspended on condition he would not be convicted of a similar offence in the next five years.
The court heard that on February 16 last year at Helani Night Club in Birchenough Bridge, Mlambo was drinking beer with the deceased Munyaradzi Chamusingarevi at around 3am in the morning.
The court heard that Chamusingarevi spilled Mlambo’s beer.
An altercation ensued and in the heat of the misunderstanding, Chamusingarevi walked out of the club to avoid further confrontation.
Mlambo followed Chamusingarevi who was in the company of another villager and caught up with them at a canal near his home.
