The deceased was identified as Getrude Marumisa of Rimuka, Kadoma. Mashonaland West acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the incident which occurred last Tuesday.

Kohwera said the now deceased was nine months pregnant and started having labour pains on October 29.

She was taken to Kadoma General Hospital the following day where she was admitted to the labour ward.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the woman experienced labour pains and sneaked out of the ward at around 2am and used bed linen to hang herself from a steel pipe, leading to her death,” said Kohwera.

The suicide was discovered by duty nurse Edward Mayanga on routine checks around the ward after noticing that Marumisa was missing. Mayanga searched for the now deceased at the scrapyard and found her already dead.

He immediately informed police. No foul play is suspected.
