Mashonaland West acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera, confirmed the death of Roy Makoshore and his son Richard. The incident occurred at Plot 153, Ezintabeni Farm, Chegutu, last Sunday.

Police said on November 18, the now-deceased’s ex-wife Muchaneta Mwale, who was now living at a neighbouring farm with her parents, went to the Makoshore homestead where she found her mother-in-law Netsai Makoshore (58) and told her she had come to dump their 21-months-old child as the father was not contributing towards his upkeep.

“Upon his return later in the day, Roy accused his mother of entertaining his ex-wife and in a fit of rage whisked away the toddler and proceeded to a shed where the family keeps chemicals. He took Caride dip and forced the baby to drink before he also drank some,” said Kohwera, adding relatives immediately discovered what had happened and administered first aid by forcing the two to drink milk. Unfortunately, both collapsed and died at the scene.

Police attended the scene and took the bodies to Chegutu District Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
