The Warriors, now disbanded after failing to qualify for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals, had applied to take part in the event. They took part in 2009 where allegations of match-fixing arose and, perhaps, that could have led to change of mind by the organisers.

The “Flames” of Malawi have already received a fair draw for the event.

Results of the draw conducted on Monday in Kampala indicated that the three-time winners Malawi had been thrown into group C alongside Zanzibar, Eritrea and Rwanda.

The draw took place two days after the Flames coach Kinnah Phiri released a provisional 25-member squad for the Cecafa cup.

The squad comprises new faces such as Moses Nankumba of Azam Tigers, Green Harawa, Rodrick Gonani, Peter Pindani from Silver Strikers, Blue Eagles’ Micium Mhone, Steve Chagoma, Big Bullets’ sensation Gabadinho Mhango, Owen Chaima and George Nyirenda.

Experienced campaigners Joseph Kamwendo, Moses Chavula, Chiukepo Msowoya, Foster Namwela, Frank Banda and Dave Banda have also made the squad.
