Mashonaland West acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera said on November 18 at around noon, Abraham Mayoyo (17) of Geja village, Chief Hozhele in Sanyati, was in the company of the injured boy, Munyaradzi Mazhindu, when they stumbled upon a dynamite in a thicket near their homesteads. The pair reportedly went to Mazhindu’s homestead where Mayoyo connected their “find” to a torch battery and fixed it to the door of a hut in which the boy had entered.

“When the boy opened the door to go outside, the dynamite was triggered and it detonated, causing a big explosion. The complainant had three fingers fractured and also sustained minor burns on both legs,” Kohwera said, adding Mayoyo was rushed to St Charles’ Clinic.

He was later transferred to Sanyati Baptist Hospital for further treatment. The matter was reported to the police, leading to Mayoyo’s arrest for attempted murder.
