CAPS United are wary of a Motor Action backlash when the two sides clash in a Castle Lager Premiership tie at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.

The Green machine kicked out Joey Antipas’ men from the lucrative Mbada Diamonds Cup after handing them a 1-0 defeat through a late strike by Hardlife Zvirekwi in the quarter-finals at Trojan Mine in Bindura in September.

Since their interests in the tournament were ended by Caps United, the Mighty Bulls have quickly shifted focus to their league assignments in which they have acquitted themselves well, managing to grind out positive results in their recent matches.

Motor Action have lost just once against Dynamos in the past seven matches and posted crucial wins against FC Platinum, Hardbody, Blue Rangers and Quelaton. They drew against Black Mambas and army side Buffaloes.

And Mangwiro is aware of the threat posed by Motor Action. He singled out Merciful Ncube as one of their danger men after he scored a hat trick in their 5-0 destruction of Blue Rangers last weekend.

“Motor Action has been getting positive results recently. Merciful Ncube scored a hat-trick against Blue Rangers recently and we expect them to come out firing. But in the Mbada Diamonds Cup we beat them and that is an advantage to us and they will be trying to play catch-up,” Mangwiro said at the club’s weekly Press conference yesterday. United, who were held to 0-0 draw by Harare City in midweek, are on ninth position on the league table and Mangwiro said they were now targeting to win their remaining three matches to finish in a stronger position.

Makepekepe will go into the match without defender Asani Nhongo and striker Shingi Kawondera who are still nursing groin injuries.

Meanwhile, Dynamos’ capacity to retain the league title faces a stern test on Sunday with the champions facing trail-blazing Monomotapa at Rufaro. Dynamos are leading the league table with 62 points from 27 matches with only three matches left before the end of the campaign.

Title rivals Highlanders trail behind with 60 points from the same number of matches. The Bulawayo giants travel to Ascot for a date with Hardbody. A stumble by either of the two sides at this stage could prove disastrous.

Dynamos emerged 3-0 victors at Black Mambas on Wednesday, while Highlanders edged army side Buffaloes 1-0 to keep in check with the log leaders.

Highlanders under coach Kelvin Kaindu are aiming to win their league title for the first time since 2006 while Dynamos target to defend the title they won last year.
