Maravanyika served two terms and his contract was not renewed when it ended this year. Zvobgo, brother of the late national hero Eddison Zvobgo, becomes the second vice-chancellor of GZU.

Speaking at his installation ceremony where Mugabe also capped 980 students, Zvobgo said: “Understaffing remains a challenge. We lack capacity and incentives to attract and recruit more PhD holders and professors at a faster rate.”

Zvobgo, who assumed duty on October 1, said GZU was lagging behind in information and communication technology.

“We only have five megabytes of Internet for the whole institution, so e-learning is very difficult and students are incapacitated,” he said.
